another reason I love my job

I had a 15 year old boy come by today to have an oral specimen test (spit test) done for a life insurance policy. I asked him to sign the authorization (before I realized how old he was) and he said, "I don't have a signature yet... can I just write my name?"

Awww... of course!

Doug and I were just talking about signatures today and penmanship in general. Although cursive lettering is taught at school, there are so many other things that take up time at school that just working on writing in cursive is falling by the wayside. Natalie can type a report with appropriate form and content with the correct lettering and spacing and can put together a top-notch powerpoint presentation, but she can't read cursive writing easily ~ they just do not focus on it, nor do they spend time actually putting it into practice. She prints most of her work and to "have" to write something in cursive is almost like a punishment to her. She has been working on her signature, though ~ she likes to endorse that paycheck ;)
