easy

Somebody said to me at some point last week... on the subject of finding a place to live... "if it's meant to be, then it will be easy"...

That phrase came back to me this morning as I was sitting in front of Tasha's old house dialing the number on the "for rent" sign. The owner answered... said that his sister worked at a nearby store and had a key if I wanted to go pick up the key and check the house out... I did and I did.

It's a house that was built around the same time as my parents' house - early 60's, which makes it around 50 years old. It's red brick ranch. Hardwood floors. Two full (but small) bathrooms. Two huge bedrooms. A huge long living room / dining room with a fireplace. A nice sized kitchen. A nice sized den. Laundry room. Another living space that I think might be a bedroom because it has a closet but I'm not sure. Just one of those quirky older homes.

It's at the front of our old subdivision. Closer to the main highway. Same basic neighborhood, for better or for worse. A lot more house than we did have. A yard to maintain. It doesn't come with a refrigerator or washer and dryer.

It's available. It's affordable - all except for the whole deal of purchasing appliances. No credit check (which matters, I'm ashamed to say but it's the truth). No application fee. He usually asks for first and last month's rent but since it needs to be cleaned, he'll waive half of the last month's rent. I could move right on in as soon as our stuff is ready and I'm able to deal with the appliance situation - maybe do a rent to own, I don't know. They accept pets. No pet deposit.

I want it. I'm not gonna lie. I want to stay in the same neighborhood because I like living in town. "In town" being relative, of course. The truth is that we don't need that much space but when I walked into the house - although it smelled a little dusty and stale - it felt like a home. Not just a nest. A real home where a real family lives.

On one hand it is really easy... but on the other hand... not so much.

I'm not sure what to do... but tomorrow... I'm going to check out a few other places.

I don't know if anything worth having EVER comes easy. I am not saying all, but many of the 'less than good' choices that I made on the easy, convenient and quick, were always among the choices that I would want to have thought a bit more on.

You could be anxious. It is rough when you are used to being on your own, whether it is in comfort or struggling by. Still, take your time and make the best choice not the one that only seems like a good choice.

Heather,

I was able to get my fridge on Craigslist (a side by side fridgidare) for $200. It's perfectly fine and has been for the last two years. I also got my washer and dryer for free. Originally it was $100 for the set, but the lady really wanted me to come asap and told me if I did, she'd just give it to us. This is not a huge obsticle. If you love this place....get it! Everything will fall into place for you I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Best of luck getting resettled.
