left handed patriots

I have been curled up in my nest sipping hot cider and watching the inauguration. Despite the fact that I was not an Obama supporter, I appreciate that this is a special moment in history. I appreciate the pomp and circumstance of it all. I still think George Bush is a hero and a patriot. Regardless of what you think of his politics, who would have thought on September 12, 2001, that our country would not face another terrorist attack within our borders? It seemed almost certain.

I was especially touched by the first daughters, Sasha and Malia. They carried themselves with grace and dignity beyond their years. I love the reports that Malia cautioned her father about his speech, "Hmm. First African American President. Better be good." I notice that afterwards she said to him, "good speech". I have always enjoyed watching the presidential daughters... Amy Carter, Chelsea Clinton, Barbara and Laura Bush... Sasha and Malia are adorable additions to this elite sorority.

Another presidential minority that interests me is the left-handers. Barack Obama is the 8th left-handed president and he writes sideways just like I do. I thought that was pretty cool. Previous lefties are James Garfield, Herbert Hoover, Harry Truman, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Some sources add Thomas Jefferson to that list. Ronald Reagan actually wrote with his right hand - although he was truly left handed. I'm lefthanded, which is why it's relevant to me.

Stubby is napping on my bed with me.

The oath was garbled but that made it sort of endearing, didn't it?

I've turned off the phone today. I didn't realize how many telemarkers call my house during the day.

My cellphone has been quiet most of the day too. People are used to me being at work during the day so they don't call. I did get a bible verse texted to me (from Barry), which was sweet... and a text from my oldest son, Ryan.

It's been a long time since I had this bad of a sore throat. I don't want to get back on the whole antibioTics merry-go-round. I'm hoping this is just a cold and not strep. I stretched the budget catching up on bills this month and didn't set anything aside for things like... oh, doctor visits and meds. Those little luxuries...

I've gone three weeks without a doctor visit. I want to be physician free in 2009.

Watching the Obamas in the parade. I hope she has some gel inserts in her shoes... cold toes in pointy toed heels equals some serious pain. I do love Michelle's sense of style.

Ok. That's all I've got. Back to your parade watching... *hugs*

Good luck on staying doc free in 2009, and I hope you feel better. I might have to bite the bullet and call one up for the first time in years, as I've got a cold that just won't quit.

Abraham Lincoln was also left handed. I believe that makes nine.

I hope that sore throat gets better. I missed the events yesterday and I too, love to watch regardless of who is being sworn in. I hope that some day I can be there, feeling that excitement in person.
